LVMs (while they are cool) obviously suck even more because of their tendency to make even the data on the good drives unusable when one dies. Glad you'll go for a RAID next time. That's the way to go. And you can also save backups on it from your laptop because then you know a dying harddrive won't wipe your backups out. *sigh*, yeah, if it’s important data single drives always suck.
